This was inspired by artist Sir Peter Blake’s ‘all over’ design for the Mersey ferry – commissioned as part of the WW1 commemorations. Entitled Everybody Razzle Dazzle, his creation is in honour of the patterns by 20th century artists that were used on wartime vessels – the so-called ‘Dazzle Ships’. Unlike other forms of camouflage, dazzle camouflage worked not by concealing but by baffling the eye, making it difficult for enemy U-boats and aircraft to estimate a target’s range, speed and direction.
